Saint Petersburg, the Paris of the east!

St Petersburg is Russias second biggest city and is the most western of them. The city has a population of 6 million and is located at the head of the Gulf of Finland. In 1914 the name of the city was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd, in 1924 to Leningrad and in 1991 back to Saint Petersburg.

The city has lots of tourists thru the summer months,  and have plenty to occupy you for a few days or a week. We just had 2 days here, so I need to come back here one day to do more sights.

The best attractions/sights in Saint Petersburg are as follows:

  • Church of the Savior on the spilled blood
  • Peterhof
  • The State Hermitage Museum (Winter Palace)
  • Boattrip thru the canals
  • St Isaacs Cathedral
  • Mariinsky Ballet (Kirov Ballet) show

The city is massive and you need good walking shoes for sightseeing or strolling the Nevsky prospekts (the citys main boulevard).
